Happy Holidays


The Kenilworth Chess Club wishes its members and friends the happiest of holidays.

We will be closed on Christmas Eve & New Year's Eve.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, January 7, 2016.

Our 1st tournament in 2016 will be the Leon Hrebinka Memorial Swiss, which is scheduled to begin February 4th.

Time Control: Black's choice of G/60, G/50 + 5 second delay or G/30 + 20 second delay.

Register: 8:00-8:15 p.m. on October 29th.
Rounds: 8:20 p.m. on October 29, November 5, 12, 19
Entry fee: KCC members $1, Non-members $2.
Prizes: 1st place 60% of EF, 2nd place 40% of EF.
Byes: One 0.75 point bye is available for any round but you must request it at least 72 hours in advance.

Sherry Wins Summer Tournament

Bob Sherry won the annual Summer Tournament for the 4th consecutive year.

John Moldovan finished 2nd for the 5th straight time and Greg Tomkovich was 3rd.

Full standings will follow at some point, if time permits.

Summer Tournament Starts June 4th

The Kenilworth Chess Club's fun, friendly, yet highly competitive Summer Tournament starts on June 4th at 8:00 p.m.

Here are the rules :
  • The 2015 Summer Tournament will run from June 4th through August 27th.
  • The entry fee is $5.00.
  • The event is not rated.
  • The time control is G/60.
  • G/55+5 (delay) may be used if there is mutual agreement between paired players. Increment settings are not allowed.
  • You may play anyone who is entered. The first time you play an opponent, the lower rated or unrated player has White. In subsequent games against the same opponent you alternate colors. If both players are unrated or have identical ratings, they toss for initial color.
  • You may not play the same opponent more than four times in the tournament.
  • All games are to be played at the Kenilworth Chess Club during normal operating hours. No game may start before 8 p.m. or later than 9:45 p.m.
  • You may play up to 2 games per week. You can skip weeks but the more you play the more points you can accrue.
  • You get one point for a win, one half point for a draw and zero for a loss. No bye points are awarded.
  • The winner is the person who has the most points at the end of the tournament.
  • The prizes are 60% for first place, 30% for second, and 10% for third.
  • Registration closes on July 30th. However, if there is an overwhelming turnout, the TD may cut-off entries as early as July 2nd.
Bob Sherry won last year, in 2013 and in 2012. Other past winners of this popular event include LM Scott Massey (2004), LM Mark Kernighan (2005, 2011), Greg Tomkovich (2006), Ari Minkov (2007, 2010), John Moldovan (2008) and Ian Mangion (2009).

Shumowitz & Tomkovich Win Spring Swiss

Marvin Shumowitz and Greg Tomkovich won the Kenilworth Spring Swiss, a 4-round G/30 held May 14-21.

Kernighan Wins 45 Move Tournament

LM Mark Kernighan won the Win Within 45 Moves Or Draw Tournament held April 23-May 7.

Bob Sherry, Greg Tomkovich and Bruce Mason tied for 2nd.
